Bethanna Students Show Their Support for the Make-A-Wish Foundation
Southampton, Pa. (January 2006) --- Students at Bethanna’s Greenhouse School showed off their creativity and flexed their muscles in support of a good cause. Students who attend the Greenhouse School, an academically licensed K-12 school on Bethanna’s Southampton campus, held two fundraisers in December. Students will present the money raised from both events to Rebecca Reid, development associate representing the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Philadelphia and Southeastern Pennsylvania chapter.
Greenhouse students collected spare change, sponsored a craft/bake sale and participated in a walk/run-a-thon. Proceeds from these fundraising activities benefited the foundation’s “Kids for Wish Kid.” The program emphasizes the value of community service by providing the K-12 students with hands-on experience in helping to grant wishes through their foundation’s local chapters. Since the program started, students in Pennsylvania and across the nation have been encouraged to discover creative ways to show their support, from bake sales to dance marathons to art shows to read-a-thons.
For 2006, the foundation's goal is to grant 225 wishes. “We are proud of the students at Bethanna’s Greenhouse School for all their hard work and dedication to help make a special wish come true for a local child suffering from a life-threatening medical condition," said Dennis Heron, executive director of Make-A-Wish Foundation of Philadelphia and Southeastern Pennsylvania serving Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties. "Their kindness and willingness to help make a difference in the community is inspiring and much appreciated."
Greenhouse School is an integral part of Bethanna’s Residential Treatment Program which provides comprehensive treatment for children with severe emotional, behavioral and medical conditions. “We are equally proud of what our students’ efforts and desire to give back to the communities,” said Charles A. Seith, executive director of Bethanna, a nonprofit agency which provides residential treatment, foster care, adoption and mental health services for abused, neglected and medically fragile children. “Our agency applauds the efforts of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and we’re grateful that our children could contribute to making a difference in the lives of children in need of hope and encouragement.”
